The global AI talent map is being redrawn. And India is at the center of the shift.

What's happening: top AI researchers from Google, Meta, and OpenAI are founding companies in India. Global companies are moving core AI R&D (not just services) to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Indian AI startups are raising at valuations previously reserved for Silicon Valley.

The numbers: India produces 25% of the world's AI talent. Indian engineers lead AI teams at most major US tech companies. The reverse brain drain is accelerating — experienced engineers returning from the US to build in India.

For Indian engineers, this means: you no longer need to move to the US for a world-class AI career. The best work is increasingly available locally. And remote roles bridge any remaining gap.

For non-Indian engineers: India is becoming a market you can't ignore. If you understand the Indian market AND have AI skills, companies expanding into India need you.

The cities to watch: Bengaluru remains the epicenter. Hyderabad is the fastest riser. Chennai's GCC ecosystem is maturing. Delhi NCR for AI startups. Pune for enterprise AI.

My prediction: by 2030, India will have more AI engineers than any other country. The ecosystem — talent, funding, market size, and institutional support — is reaching critical mass.

The question isn't whether India becomes an AI superpower. It's how quickly. And whether you're positioned to benefit.
