Cybersecurity + AI is producing the highest average salaries in all of tech.
And it's not even close.
Average compensation for AI Security Engineers in 2026:
US: $190K-$340K
UK: £120K-£220K
India: 35-80 LPA at top firms
Remote: $150K-$280K
Why so high? Two reasons: the threat landscape is exploding (attackers are using AI) and the talent pool is microscopic (very few people deeply understand both ML and security).
Roles: AI Red Team Lead (offensive AI security). ML-Powered Threat Detection Engineer. AI-Driven SOC Analyst. Adversarial ML Researcher. LLM Security Specialist.
What's new in 2026: LLM-specific security roles — protecting against prompt injection, data extraction, privilege escalation via natural language. This is an entirely new attack surface that traditional security engineers don't understand.
Companies hiring: every bank, every government, every cloud provider, every defense contractor, and specialized firms like CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Darktrace, Abnormal Security.
The career path: if you're in ML, learn security fundamentals (OWASP, network basics, common attack vectors). If you're in security, learn ML (focus on anomaly detection and NLP). The intersection pays more than either discipline alone.
In a world where AI fights AI in cybersecurity, the humans who architect both sides are extraordinarily valuable.
This is the highest-paying sustainable career path I know of in AI.
